Install

Download and install CodeMorph on Windows, get past SmartScreen on the unsigned beta, update and uninstall.

CodeMorph's beta runs on Windows 10 and Windows 11, 64-bit (x64). macOS and Linux builds are planned; you can join the waitlist.

Choose a download

The download page offers three builds of the same app. Pick one:

BuildBest forAdmin rights
User installer (recommended)Most people. Installs for your account only.No
System installerShared machines where every user needs CodeMorph.Yes
Portable .zipTrying CodeMorph without installing anything. No

Get past SmartScreen

Beta installers are not code-signed yet. The first time you run one, Windows shows a blue Windows protected your PC dialog. This is expected.

  1. Click More info.
  2. Check that the app name reads CodeMorph.
  3. Click Run anyway.

Only download from official sources

Get installers from this site's download page or the project's GitHub Releases. If a file named CodeMorph came from anywhere else, don't run it.

Signed installers are on the roadmap, after which this prompt goes away.

Run the installer

The installer walks through a license page, an install location and a few optional tasks, such as adding CodeMorph to your PATH and to the Explorer right-click menu. The defaults are fine.

When it finishes, CodeMorph opens to its Welcome page, with Open Folder, Start Migration and your recent projects.

Where CodeMorph keeps things

CodeMorph follows the same layout as other Code - OSS based editors, under its own names, so it never collides with an existing VS Code install:

WhatWhere
Settings, keybindings, state%APPDATA%\CodeMorph
Extensions%USERPROFILE%\.codemorph\extensions

Opening CodeMorph from a terminal

If you kept the Add to PATH option during install, open a new terminal and launch CodeMorph on any folder:

codemorph .

Open a specific file the same way, for example codemorph src/index.js. Restart any terminal that was open during install so it picks up the new PATH.

Your first launch

On first launch CodeMorph opens the Welcome page with Open Folder, Clone Repository, Start Migration and your recent projects. A short getting-started walkthrough and a tour video are available from the Welcome page whenever you want them.

Extensions

The Extensions view (Ctrl Shift X) installs from Open VSX, the open registry for Code - OSS based editors. Most popular extensions are published there. Extensions available only on Microsoft's marketplace won't appear.

Updating

The beta doesn't update itself yet. When a new version is announced in the changelog, download the new installer and run it. It installs over the existing version and keeps your settings and extensions.

Uninstalling

Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps, find CodeMorph and choose Uninstall. To remove every trace, also delete the two folders listed above. For the portable build, delete the folder you unzipped.
